How it started
The arrival of our little boy Barnaby in June 2004 not only catapulted me and my husband Mark into a world of early mornings, nappies and diabolical push-chair manoeuvring, but also doubled the need for me to drop not-so-subtle present hints to Mark around the time of my birthday and at Christmas.
Most mums considered themselves to be (relatively) sane, rational women who know that their newborn baby or two-year old toddler is incapable of buying them a card or present. And yet, despite knowing this, we all freely admit that we'd be absolutely gutted if our birthdays, or heaven forbid Mother's Day, passed without a little something from our sons and daughters.
The trouble is that there's only so much hint-dropping you can do and, let's face it, it's so much nicer when the gift you receive is genuinely a surprise.
Light bulb moment
Of course, the ability to produce a surprise gift relies on you dads not only knowing what to buy, but also where to buy it. Or failing that, having a female friend (preferably themselves a mum) on hand to suggest exactly what you should buy and exactly where you should go to buy it.
And so the idea was born - to create a website dedicated to inspiring dads and dads-to-be to get it right when it comes to buying gifts for their partners, especially gifts for mum on behalf of the little ones.
At new-daddy.co.uk we aim to provide you with a hassle free shopping experience. Just think, no more traipsing down the High Street or wasting time trawling the internet to find the perfect gift.
Little things, big difference
Whilst us mums would never knowingly turn down a large diamond ring or huge bouquet of flowers, it's actually the silly little things that we'd most love to receive.
I hope that new-daddy.co.uk helps you find the sort of presents that will make a difference, the gifts that really will be special, but most important of all the little things that will earn you precious brownie points!
